Gele is the Nigerian term for headwear. It’s the popular and flamboyant crown that many Nigerian women wear to compliment their attire when they attend parties, weddings and anywhere that calls for them to look good.

This short documentary celebrates this piece of fashion and shines a light on some of the women from the Nigerian diaspora in the UK who feel connected to their culture via the gele.

This documentary is also a labour of love as I first got the idea to shoot in back in 2014 after seeing some archive footage of Nigeria in the early 20th century. And after some let downs, a bit of procrastination and life changes, I finally completed in 2018!
